Theatre group gets cash boost

East London Advertiser – Curtain up for theatre group after cash boost
A COMMUNITY theatre has received a £20,000 cash windfall to help fund its theatre work with schools in some of London’s deprived areas.

The Unicorn in Tooley Street, near London Bridge, has been given a grant from East London’s Jack Petchey foundation to create a new youth theatre company, the Unicorn Young Company, for 16 to 18-year-olds.

The Unicorn opened in 2005 to provide theatre for children and teenagers, producing six performances a year.

The theatre, which holds weekly educational drama courses for schools in Tower Hamlets and neighbouring Southwark, is using the Petchey money for a project working with 60 youngsters every week.
